Who Actually Comes to MeasureCamp? (Honestly? Everyone.)

Spoken from the organisers’ perspective: we get asked this a lot when we’re trying to talk someone into coming.

“Is this only for analytics people? I’m not really technical.”

Short answer: no. Longer answer: some of my favourite moments from past MeasureCamps have come from people who’d never call themselves a “data person” in a million years.

We also get marketers. Yes, some of whom are deep in the data, but we also have others who just want to finally understand what their analytics team keeps going on about. Product people trying to figure out what’s actually worth measuring before they build the next product. A few UX and design folks. Business analysts, who spend half their working life translating “what the data says” into “what the business needs to hear,” and clearly enjoy a day where they don’t have to. And yes, plenty of proper data scientists and analysts too, freelancers and agency folks and in-house teams, the whole spread. And everything in between.

I didn’t just want to take my own word for it, so I went digging through what other people have actually written about MeasureCamp over the years.

One Auckland attendee, writing up their first MeasureCamp a few years back, put it better than I could: “Just seeing the variety of presentations and talks from Data Scientists to visiting Googlers, I had a lot of fun.” Someone who went along to MeasureCamp Sydney described the whole format as “basically a ‘Choose your own Adventure’ with the added bonus that you are also an active participant”. And a write-up of MeasureCamp Sydney 2024 called it an event that “invites everyone to contribute actively, facilitating open discussions and inclusive knowledge-sharing.”

None of those people work for an analytics vendor with a reason to talk the event up. They just went, and then wrote about it afterwards because it was a genuinely great day for anyone curious and interested in talking to peers about data.

So if you’re sitting on the fence because you don’t feel “technical enough,” or you’re picturing a room full of people arguing about GA4 versus GTM all day, look, there’s a bit of that, I won’t lie to you, but it’s a small slice of it.

Mostly it’s just people who are a little bit curious about how organisations actually use the numbers they collect. If you’re reading this far, that’s probably already you.
